"So unendingly confident," he couldn't help but laugh, even if the sound was sputtered from being pinned. Not that he necessarily doubted him, of course. He just couldn't help but appreciate the raw confidence and humor in the middle of such a situation.
"Of course he and other Primes didn't start out corrupt. The Matrix never would have chosen him otherwise. But he also began to reject the Matrix in turn, in the end. It is the only reason we still have it now, rather than it being lost with him."
Optimus shrugged, or managed the motion as well as he could while pinned painfully down under a mech in a situation that was doing it's best to turn the battle-heat from the fight into something else entirely. The thought was almost pleasing at this point. At leas then he might get something about of the dings on his frame.
"I'm not blindly confident or foolish enough to think myself immune, but I hope to at least avoid the mistakes of those that failed."
He smirked up at the mech, leaning in.
"Besides, I hope to have some sort of backup plans in place before that ever happens, should I fall."
