Sure, not all mechs around were as lightly armoured as your average noble, but adequate armour wasn't the only thing needed in a potential conflict. Knowledge of defense, offense and weapons were too, and while programming, routines and subroutines could be installed, they needed to be integrated and used to become smooth and instinctive.
